Summary

"A brilliant debut, full of everything I love: a sparkling and fully realized heroine, an intricate and deadly system of magic, and a searing romance that kept me reading long into the night。 Serpent & Dove is an absolute gem of a book。" —Sarah J。 Maas, #1 New York Times bestselling author of A Court of Thorns and Roses series

Bound as one, to love, honor, or burn。 Book one of a stunning fantasy duology, this tale of witchcraft and forbidden love is perfect for fans of Kendare Blake and Sara Holland。

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal。 There, witches like Lou are hunted。 They are feared。 And they are burned。

As a huntsman of the Church, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live。 But when Lou pulls a wicked stunt, the two are forced into an impossible situation—marriage。

Lou, unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, must make a choice。 And love makes fools of us all。

Set in a world of powerful women, dark magic, and off-the-charts romance, book one of this stunning fantasy duology will leave readers burning for more。

Look y’all, it’s no secret that I am totally behind with the books that have all the hype。 I guess I just like to discover things at my own pace。 When I was browsing the shelves at B&N, I finally decided to give this one a try after seeing it all over bookstagram。 Sad, but true story, I almost bought Blood and Honey thinking that is was the first book in the series。 Boy, would I have been in for a rude awakening。 Thankfully, I quickly figured it out, but I didn’t buy the second book along with the first one because I wasn’t sure I’d like it。 I didn’t feel fully committed to go all in。 Now, I wish I had! I’m not going to lie, I struggled in the beginning。 It dove right into what turns out to be an important piece of the story, but I was just overall very confused as to why our main characters were dressed like men in a brothel because everything was just very vague and no foreground was given。 The best way I can describe it is that I felt like I was missing a piece of the puzzle or the book started mid story in a way。Other than that, I loved the book。 I couldn’t wait to figure out how a witch ended up marrying a witch hunter。 I wonder if Reid will ever really know that it was truly an accident。 On another note, I also loved Lou as our main character。 Her sass, the confidence, the cajones, the way she completely shattered the image of an “ideal” woman whom are supposed to obey their husbands (insert eyeroll here)。 How she treated the archbishop ended up being some of my favorite scenes! But, even when she thought herself weak, I didn’t see it。 She just did what she had to to survive and in my opinion, it takes more strength and courage to live than to die。 She never lost or tried to hide her personality despite trying to hide who she really was。 To me, it was like she was made to stand apart from everyone else。 And of course, I also loved Reid, although his conviction in his beliefs were shocking at times, but they made up who he was。 It also drove his loyalty, faith, and protection。 This was such a good enemies to lover/slow - burn。 Even though they both felt the shift in feelings, each were still to unsure it was really there too act on it。The story overall was written so well。 I feel like if I knew French, it’d be even better because I don’t even want to know how royally I screwed up the pronunciation of most, if not all of the French words in my head。 Aside from the beginning, I didn’t feel like I was missing information so much anymore, but that was more so because as the story progressed, it’s easy to discern the plot twists。 I saw all of them coming except the end。 That one took me by surprise。 ALSOThat scene where things got hot and heavy? One, perfectly written and it was hilarious how she flicked him on the nose after and said well done。 That made me chuckle。 BUT, the most disappointing thing about the book was that it wasn’t in his POV or he didn’t have a POV after。 If anything, I felt like it should have been in his POV since it was his first time。I can’t wait to see where things go from here because things just went from bad to worse, so I will be purchasing Blood & Honey as soon as I can!Recommendation: In my opinion, this is by no means a thrilling, gripping the edge of your seat read, but it will have you flipping the pages and leave you wanting more。 Because as I soon discovered, the further in I got, the more I didn’t want to put it down。 If you love the enemies to lovers trope, then this book is for you。 。。。more

Okay。 Okay。 This was pretty darn good。 I loved the romance between Lou and Reid, I felt like that was the core of the whole story, but I also really enjoyed having more going on。 First of all, the witches are NASTY in this one。 The magic system isn’t super well-developed but it is set up so in order to be powerful you have to be pretty twisted, so the villains are villains indeed。 The church is also pretty twisted and the battle between the two kept things interesting。 I loved the female friends Okay。 Okay。 This was pretty darn good。 I loved the romance between Lou and Reid, I felt like that was the core of the whole story, but I also really enjoyed having more going on。 First of all, the witches are NASTY in this one。 The magic system isn’t super well-developed but it is set up so in order to be powerful you have to be pretty twisted, so the villains are villains indeed。 The church is also pretty twisted and the battle between the two kept things interesting。 I loved the female friendship between Lou and Coco and Ansel is just the sweetest cinnamon bun of a character。 I’m so excited to read the next one because I liked this one so much but I just don’t know where it can go from here。 I’m afraid the author is going to try to destroy me。 I’m getting some Sarah J。 Maas vibes and I really liked her early stories but felt like they got worse as they went, so I’m hoping the same doesn’t happen here。 Aaah! I haven’t been this excited about a book/series in a while! 。。。more

I liked this book a lot more than I thought I was going to。 I had been putting it off and putting it off and once I finally read it, I was pleasantly suprised。 I liked it enough that I put the rest of my TBR on hold to jump into the second one。。。Which may have been a mistake since the third book doesn't come out until late summer/early fall and I don't trust that #2 isn't going to end dramatically。 I think the reason I was so hesitant to read was I didn't realize it was going to be MORE than the I liked this book a lot more than I thought I was going to。 I had been putting it off and putting it off and once I finally read it, I was pleasantly suprised。 I liked it enough that I put the rest of my TBR on hold to jump into the second one。。。Which may have been a mistake since the third book doesn't come out until late summer/early fall and I don't trust that #2 isn't going to end dramatically。 I think the reason I was so hesitant to read was I didn't realize it was going to be MORE than the romance。 Enemies-lovers with a marriage of convenience sounded fine, entertaining read-- but I'm really thankful that the fantasy/adventure themes were also really engaging。 Recommended for: Mature middle school and US students。 I've seen a lot of "perfect for fans of Sarah J。 Mass" and while I don't think that's wrong (especially with the more steamy romance scenes), I got more Six of Crows/Grishaverse vibes。 Especially with the correlation with Nina and Matthias。 。。。more

It’s ALL there!Lou, a witch running away from being offered as sacrifice by her kin, and Reid, a witch-hunter who has known life in black and white, are thrust together unwillingly in an union of marriage。 Lou decides to use this to her advantage despite being in the most dangerous place for a witch, and Reid decides to honour his vows simply because of who he is。 From the very beginning there’s tension, a tantalising tenseness continues to build their bond。 I absolutely loved how unabashed our female protagonist was and thrived in her personality。 This book leans more towards the older section of young-adult audience。 There’s introduction and regular appearance of characters who begin to grow on you, the author has done a great job in writing the dialogues and making them seem as realistic and snarky as possible。Despite all my preferences being written, I felt this book fell short of what could have been an amazing adventure。 For a fantasy fiction, I love it when ample focus is placed on the world building, exploration of history, side characters who are more than just accomplices to the protagonists and protagonists whose characteristics aren’t one-dimensional。 Sadly, S&D heavily relies on the cat and mouse chase of a relationship which Lou and Reid share with obvious secrets highlighting the story and gives the rest amiss。 As much as I loved their interactions and them together, it got a little boring and dragged the book for me。 However, the last part of the book attempts to make up for the monotonous middle。 Lots of things begin to happen, and plot twists greet you in every chapter while the story ends leaving us on a cliffhanger。 I’m not sure if I’ll be checking out the sequel and the final book when it’s out since I’ve gotten too picky with my fantasy reads, but I hope I will! (Mood reader alert!) Read is if you want fiction for your tropes craving heart。 。。。more

I enjoyed the idea of this book, much more than the actual book。 The book was far too long for the events that took place。 I don't mind length, but considering my next few comments, I feel as though it would have made it better being shorter。The magic system seemed to be lacking ( which I can look passed sometimes, but I feel is kinda what the book is supposed to be about)。 It feels unknown, underdeveloped, and underwhelming。 The love story was kinda meh。 I feel like the love was forced and no b I enjoyed the idea of this book, much more than the actual book。 The book was far too long for the events that took place。 I don't mind length, but considering my next few comments, I feel as though it would have made it better being shorter。The magic system seemed to be lacking ( which I can look passed sometimes, but I feel is kinda what the book is supposed to be about)。 It feels unknown, underdeveloped, and underwhelming。 The love story was kinda meh。 I feel like the love was forced and no big or even a tiny small series of events made them fall in love, but yet, some how they were just heads over heals for each other。 I will continue with the series to see what the next one brings however。 Inquiring minds need to know。 I really enjoyed Ansel's character。 I feel like I would want to be friends with him。 。。。more
